Job Duties:

  • Performs major and general mechanical repairs to SYGMA vehicles and reefer units including troubleshooting mechanical problems and identifying their solution in an effort to correct malfunctions and reduce further breakdowns.
  • Follows PM schedules on all equipment.
  • Completes repair of vehicles in accordance with DOT and State laws.
  • Maintains accurate records of each repair performed on SYGMA vehicles.
  • Maintains shop area by keeping tools and equipment picked up; cleaning up liquid spills; sweeping floor; dumping trash, and performing other related duties.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.  
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of basic welding and use of acetylene torch. 


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Annual Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Brake Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • ASE certifications – Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks (preferred not required)
  • EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC – Refrigeration Certification (preferred not required)
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM’s and component manufacturers
  • Technician must provide own and provide all tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Sysco) necessary to perform all maintenance repair and diagnostics
  • Class A license preferred
